Standalone security scanner

Hello,

I have a user I have been asked to advise regarding computer disinfection of malware under the caveat that I not needlessly modify the system, including the installation of software (even necessary software) that the user will not be using after the system is disinfected. The system in question is running Win7 x64.

As a result, I am wondering which Norton utility best fits the bill - I prefer a scanner tool that does not require installation (eg, a portable technician's version) or a software suite that is supported by a seperate clean-uninstall tool that will enable me to guarantee my ability to fully remove the software past my resolution of the infection issue (the user was insistent on this matter).

On my initial review of the Norton support site the first two utilities that caught my attention are Norton Security Scan and Norton Power Eraser - my first question is to verify whether these are indeed the Norton software most suited to addressing this situation, and if not, what should I be looking for? And my second question is just what are the differences between the two? Furthermore, I noticed that the Norton Removal Tool does not claim to uninstall Norton Security Scan - if so, then this poses a problem.

Please advise.
