FWIW, Same holds true for left behind "orphaned Scheduler entries" if at some point you installed, then later uninstalled, the stand-alone-version of Norton Management...
Hi JohnOzuk,
It could be because of intermittent network connection or could be server issue, since NPE is totally dependent on the network you would have faced this issue. Kindly run NPE again to see if the issue still occurs, if you still face the issue please send us NPE logs[etl file] stored in the below location for further analysis.
Log location:C:\Users\"current user"\AppData\Local\NPE\Tracesession.etl
Thanks for the reply. However I think I will leave things as are. I was only running out of paranoia. NPE seems too unstable a product to run unless you absolutely need to.
HI dforrest:
According to PapauZ's post here from 2011, Norton UAC was discontinued in 2009 and never progressed beyond beta testing. The last download link I could find in the forum for NUAC was here by Symantec employee Qi, and that link no longer works.
The Softpedia mirror site still has an old installer here for Norton UAC Tool 2008.1.0.11 (Beta). Softpedia has a good reputation (seee gizmo's review here) but as a precaution I would download the installer to your computer and then submit it for analysis to VirusTotal before you run it just to make sure it isn't bundled with malware. A high detection rate with VirusTotal would indicate that a wide variety of AV software considers the installer to be potentially unsafe/malicious.
There is also an old LifeHacker review here for other users that aren't familiar with this tool.
Hi John,
Thank you for your reply. I think you hit the nail right on the head. I watched the video several times and applied the instructions to my Actiontec C1000A modem. There are two areas, in my modem, to configure the DNS settings. One is under WAN Settings and the other is under DHCP Settings. The DNS works fine if I set it up under either one or both areas. Once I go to Service Blocks and create a rule to block port 53 and apply it to the device's ip address, the device completely stops working instead of routing to the Norton DNS service. I just receive a message "web page cannot be displayed."
I'm not sure if it's an issue with my modem or my lack of understanding. I don't think Centurylink will be very helpful, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to call them or Actiontec for assistance.
Thank you for your help.
Hi Katie,
Thank you for your reply. The Norton DNS servers work properly. It's just very easy to bypass them, if you know what you are doing. For example, you can edit the wifi connection on a cell phone and remove the Norton DNS server ip address from the settings and change it to whatever DNS server ip address you want. The cell phone can then go to any web site using my router. I'm just trying to figure out a way to prevent that.
Thank you for your help.
Hi nothing,
We are working on the issue. I'll keep you updated as soon as I get an update.
Thanks
Katie
Hi Rag,
Can you also share us the OS informations? Is your machine wimboot enabled?
Norton Power Eraser is identifying driver 'eraserutidrv.sys' as bad, but fails to remove it on system restart?
NPE is prone to false positives. This appears to be a Norton file, which would explain why it cannot be removed. The Norton Tamper Protection is doing its job and stopping another entity from removing it.
Is there a problem you are trying to fix by running NPE? NPE should only be used as a repair tool when regular scans do not fix something.

Although I'm not personally familiar with the Actiontec C1000A (and whatever firmware variances Centurylink may have implemented), I think I may be able to clear up your dual DNS setting locations observation. The WAN settings are about governing the outside-world interfacing (Wide Area Network - aka, BroadBand) the other setting you found most likely is a part of the LAN (your Local Area Network) side of the modem's integrated router settings. The DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) is a sort of server component who's responsibility it is to allocate IP addresses to your LAN attached devices (both wired and Wi-Fi). Some routers & modem-routers allow the DNS that is used on the LAN side to be independently configured (thereby different) from the WAN DNS utilized by the router's internal services.
As to the Service Block causing BB communication failure - This may be being caused by an in-router firewall rule-precedence (order conflict) - especially if the C1000A router implements a stateful firewall. Unfortunately correcting the problem will require a greater familiarity with the C1000A than I have. However since the modem has the Service Block ability I still think it can be done.
Your best option will be to contact either Centurylink's or better yet, Actiontec's technical support for further assistance. Of course you realize the importance of making the tech support person you contact understand fully the desired outcome you wish to achieve.
If you you do manage to attain a favorable outcome I'd be interested in hearing back from you as to how it was achieved.
Best,
John
Thank You
I bought the norton utilities 16 about 2 months ago. It works great. My problem is this someone crashed my laptop after I did a resore to fix it. I realized my norton utilities was gone. I forgat to back it up oops. If I try to reinstall it it will tell me I have already used the cd key and will not let me use it again. How can I reinstall it without having to buy it all over again. I installed it on w7 home. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would suggest you contact Support via online chat. They have the tools necessary to fix most issues. You will find them here www.norton.com/chat
