How Does The Norton Utilities 16 Licence Agreement Work Now?
With version 15, it was that you could only stay with version 15 even if a new version was released in the licence period. Has the product now changed to a similar licence as with NIS, where as long as you have a valid licence, you can upgrade to the latest version? I only ask seeing as you now have to validate the install.
Thanks in advance.
NU15 to 16 update
I have NU on three diffierent computers: 15 on two laptops (win8 on one and Vista on the other) and 16 on a desktop with Windows 7 Ultimate. Originally I had installed 15 on all three at the same time and from the same source under the same license. At some time in the past few months the desktop (Win7) NU updated itself to 16 - which I like better - but the other two remained 15. How did this happen and how can I get the 15 on the laptops to update - or can I?

Welcome,
Unless something has changed NU is a licensed product and does not update to another version. If you got a new version you may also have gotten a bill. However, if they have converted NU to a subscription product then you should be able to upgrade the others. This assumes that they are all on the same multi-device subscription. If they are on different licenses or subscriptions you may need to contact customer support
to get things sorted out.

Hi,
We're going to have to ask somebody who knows the answer to that question. I think
Hang in there, help is on the way.
ONLINE BACKUP NOT ACCEPTING ACTIVATION CODE"
Just purchased Norton Internet Security 2014 which comes with Online Backup, but the registration/activation of the latter product will not accept the enclosed activation code. What next?

Hi,
Relax, reboot and take a short break. Let the system catch up with you. Then try again. If the problem persists check with customer support

Re: Internet and community
Hello
I am in this site with IE 10 on win 7 pro sp 1.and with NIS 21 latest version.
Re: NU15 to 16 update
They were from a multi-device license and were installed at the same time. Support provided an appropriate key; problem solved.

Norton Utilities 16.0 is this counterfeit on Amazon. UK?
Hello Community,
I would like some help from Symantec Admin about a puzzling copy of Norton Utilities 16.0 on Amazon. UK
Taken directly from the advert as follows
Title description: The boxed disc says
Norton Utilities 16.0 - 1 Computers - 1 Year Subscription (PC)
Description on scrolling down says
Box Contains
1 x Norton Utilities 16.0 - 3 Computers, 1 Year Subscription
Here is a link to the product
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Norton-Utilities-16-0-Subscription-Frustration-Free/dp/B00F5NY8IW/
There are no reviews of the product which makes me suspicious.
They have not replied to my posted question.
I am paranoid about purchasing re-boxed fake or counterfeit goods.
I am worried about purchasing software which might thave ransom ware such as Cryptolocker or other nasties installed.
How can I tell if a product is genuine Symantec ....before I place the disc into my PC.
I always prefer to purchase a hard copy rather than a site download.
With regards
Castillonia

It's unlikely to be a fake or a counterfeit, but some people have run into licencing problems, where two out of three had already been used by someone else.
NU16 will not clear firefox cache when folder is in different drive
Hi I was wondering if someone has come across this issue and could provide me with some guidance...
I recently changed my system's boot drive to a SSD for performance reasons. After doing so I setup my firefox and IE browsers to store cached files on a seprarate conventional magnetic drive to avoid excessive writes and re-writes on my SSD.
When using the brower cache removal funciton in NU16, the tool will succesfully remove the IE cache from my secondary drive, however for Firefox it is still attempting to remove the cache from the original folder that was in the C drive. NU will not recognise that firefox is storing cached data in an alternate drive.
This results in the FIREFOX privacy scan not being effective at all. I primarily use firefox over IE so I was curious if anyone has heard of any possible tweaks I can make so that the cache clearing functionality of NU will work properly with firefox.
Summary:
Im using Win7 64 with NU 16.0.1.7
IE cache folder points to D drive
FF cache folder points to D drive
NU16 removes IE cache from D drive
NU16 does not remove FF cache from D drive.
Re: NU16 will not clear firefox cache when folder is in different drive
Welcome,
Not sure what to suggest on the cache on D: but you might try installing FF on the magnetic drive for now. That shuld point NU in the right direction to do the cleanup. When foliks get back to work in the morning maybe we can get a better solution.

Hi castillonia,
If your system is set to not autorun a CD when it is placed in the drive you could scan the disl with your installed security software.
Just a thought

If you are just worried about the actual CD being questionable, and not the license key, you can download NU 16 directly from the Norton site and use the key you purchased to activate. www.norton.com/nu16

As you asked, these are the files that I was unable to attach in PM.

Re: Norton Utilities 16.0 is this counterfeit on Amazon. UK?
Thank you all for your quick responses and guidance.
It is much appreciated.
I has occured to me that perhaps these discs had been previously used and so there would be problems with additional licences.
I am surprised that the Company Symantec and Amazon allow such a possibility. I had imagined buying a disc from Symantec would not allow such third party use of licences. If indeed is what is happening here.
Because of the possible doubts and the fact the retailer has not responded, I will not be puchasing from them.
Thank you also for the suggestion to download the software direct from Symantec site and use the purchased key. I had not thought of that safer approach.
Best regards
Castilonia.

Symantec/Norton loses control of its products when they are sold. They can still control the licenses but that doesn't prevent some less that honest folks from doing 'things'
