See this as well

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH204413

SSR uses the term "BIOS Based" for what we call an image made on a "MBR" or Non-UEFI based drive.

Also be aware that SSR 2013 does not support Windows 8.1 and is not expected to until February at the earliest.

Some people have reported that they can restore an image of 8.1 and then rebuild the BCD to get the system to work.

Personally I have not bothered trying it with 8.1 yet.

Norton Anti Theft - compatibility with UEFI drivers & Win 8.1 Pro

Dear All,

I'm a new member of this community and I hope we can help each other.

My issue concerns Norton Anti Theft. As I'm deciding if I can buy it, I kindly ask for some clarifications:

1) is Norton Anti Theft compatible with EUFI drivers and with Windows 8.1 Pro ?

2) does the program run before Windows is loaded (as when an HDD cryptography software is installed) or after Windows is loaded, but just before the Windows password screen?

I thank you in advance for your suppor and explanations.

Regards.

Your best bet might be to contact Customer Support and allow them to remotely connect with your computer to get this sorted.

Live Chat using your keyboard is often the best way.

Are you using a fresh download of the Norton Removal Tool? If you are using an older version, it may not be catching what it should.

Identity Safe not closing correctly

When I log into Identity Safe and use it sometimes it closes itself correctly after 30 minutes of inactivity which is how I have it set or I can close it manually.  Sometimes though the tab says "Vault is Closed", however, when I go to "Open Vault" it brings up the Logins screen and says the vault is open but it won't let me log in to any of my websites.  It just stays on the Logins screen and won't even let me close the app.  If I go into task manager it will let me close the identity safe, however it won't let me restart it again.  The only solution I have is to restart the entire system and then it will close the vault and work properly which is very frustrating when I sometimes have to do this several times a day.  My OS is Windows 8.1, Internet Explorer 11, and my only antivirus is Windows Defender.  I do use CCleaner and Advanced System Care 7, but I don't see how these could be affecting the problem.  Any help would be appreciated, because at this point I am about to uninstall it and use Last Pass.

Hi,

NU16 should be recognizing your SSD and skipping over it.

Utilities 16 gives you a list of actions. Why after completing something on the list does it remain on the dashboard to do it again and again and again and the list seems out of order create restore points then lose the restore points in the next action on the list.??

Norton Power Eraser is a powerful and potentially dangerous tool in the hands of those that are not familiar with any file it offers to remove. It is best left to a supervised session with a malware removal expert.

Hi AleRossi,

1) is Norton Anti Theft compatible with EUFI drivers and with Windows 8.1 Pro ?

 - Norton Anti Theft is compatible with Windows 8.1 pro. We will get back to you on the driver related query.

2) does the program run before Windows is loaded (as when an HDD cryptography software is installed) or after Windows is loaded, but just before the Windows password screen?

- NAT program does not run before windows is loaded (unlike HDD cryptography) when in normal status.

- However when the device is locked(lost) , the NAT services load before windows login.

unclear on NPE scan and support

I was having problems with nationzoom.com hijacking browser start and new page settings ... my norton 360 seemed oblivious, even after a NPE scan, so I used StopZilla (which fixed the hijacking but contines to report 88 damaged or suspicious files).

Anyway, because StopZilla continued to report problems, I thought I'd try NPE again ... it found 2 files that needed to be corrected, so I approved the fix which then failed. I failed to write down the 2 file names, so I contacted support for help identifying the NPE scan results ... after wiating close to half an hour to connect with a chat session, the agent connected to my computer, ran a QuickScan (which completed successfully, not finding any problems) then, when I asked if a QuickScan is the same as an NPE scan (which required a reboot when I ran it), and why she didn't answer my original question (i.e., how to identify the 2 files NPE reported and failed to fix), she closed the chat session without comment.

Should I be concerned?

Is a QuickScan is the same as an NPE scan?

And is there a way to see a log file or something else to report on the NPE scan I ran that found problems?

Thanks

P.S. I'm not happy with all of the time required of me to chase this stuff down ... I paid my subscription and dues by waiting for support ... all I want is a clear answer.

There have been a number of users who lost some valuable system capabilities, including the ability to boot up the machine by careless use of the NPE.  It is not a secondary scan tool.
