Re: gobackio.bin - does this file actually contain any retrievable data?
Hi, I have tried this before. Upon booting up, but before window appear, press any key to activate the Goback. Then in Goback, select a date earlier, before the crash. The Goback will restore the PC to this time / date. Everything will be OK. Hope it work for you too.

There aren't the tools or supervision available to help you on this forum. You are in the best place for assistance. These are all volunteer forums. Unfortunately you will have to wait until a helper with sufficient experience turns up online to work with you on your machine at Geeks.
Norton Power Erase, like many of the more aggressive tools requires enough computer knowledge to know what to fix and what not to, especially when fix means delete.
I would say that, yes, accidentally loading XP files on a Win 7 has definitely made things worse.
I know it is frustrating, but you will need to be patient. This is not a quick and easy fix.
no longer able to log into identity safe after reboot on work laptop.
Re: gobackio.bin - does this file actually contain any retrievable data?
If lg99's suggestion does not help, you may need to go to one of the free Malware removal sites listed below. They are able to see if your system has been attacked and that is what is hiding your Windows installation, or if it is missing, why.
Choose one of the sites and follow the directions exactly. Do not try anything else on your own, as it will make any recovery more difficult. Remember the sites are all volunteer run, so it may take a little while to get the solution.

When you did the reinstall, did you restart the computer between the uninstall and the reinstall?
Norton DNS
I have 2 Question :-
1. Can i use this DNS IP 198.153.192.1, 198.153.194.1 and 198.153.192.40, 198.153.194.40?
2. Why Norton DNS Changed New IP 199.85.126.10& 199.85.127.10? I am so Confused about New IP.

Hi,
198.153.192.1 and 198.153.194.1 have been discontinued. There may be some forwarding to active IPs for a limited time.
198.153.192.40 and 198.153.194.40 are also being phased out. The current IPs for using Norton DNS are:
199.85.126.10 / 199.85.127.10 - least restrictive
199.85.126.20 / 199.85.127.20 - more restrictive
199.85.126.30 / 199.85.127.30 - most restrictive
Hope this helps
Re: NU 16 Dashboard frozen, won't update status
Yes, I've tried 1 click optimization, which then runs normally and ends without making any change to the dashboard gauge or the steps listed under "Next steps requires to achieve good system health:" Running any step under "Next steps requires to achieve good system health:" does not change the dashboard gauge value or remove the just performed step from "Next steps requires to achieve good system health:". All the possible steps/actions possible with NU 16 work as normally but result in no change to the dashboard gauge value or the listed steps under "Next steps requires to achieve good system health:". Very strange.
Norton DNS and Linksys e1200
I've recently decided to give Norton DNS a try, but am worried I'm going to run into the same problem I did with Open DNS until I figured that out. WIth the Linksys e1200 there are 3 spots on the router config page to put DNS IP addresses and if you don't fill in all 3 then the last slot will use one of my ISP's DNS servers. So with Open DNS I used their IP's in the first two spots like it said and left the third blank (0.0.0.0). Come to find out my ISP (Comcast) filled in the third spot with one of its DNS server IP's and it would always revert to it instead of using the Open DNS IP's even though the Open DNS IP's were placed before it. So to counter this I found a third Open DNS IP address so all 3 spots would be filled with just Open DNS IP's and everything worked fine. Upon looking at the Norton DNS IP's there are only two (199.85.126.10/199.85.127.10) for least restrictive which is what I want to use. Should I just use an IP from the more restrictive option of Norton DNS to fill the third spot? How exactly would I test that I am in fact using Norton DNS IP's since the test page stil isn't working correctly? Hopefully I spelled this out in the least confusing way possible lol. Thanks!
Re: Norton DNS and Linksys e1200
For the time being the old IP's still work, so you could add this as third address - 198.153.192.40 or 198.153.194.40 - This is the old least restrictive address.
