Hi gary_dexter,

Thanks for your patenice.  The team confirmed that we had a temporary outage in the region.  The new IP set should be ok by now.

The 'old' IP set you have reverted to has the same settings as the new one and will continue to be supported.  You can stay with 'old' or 'new' IPs.

Thanks,

Katie

Hi

It's still not blocking anything.

Yes I know I can run it from the USB, but once I execute it, won't it attempt to update.  We do not want this system connected to the internet at this time.  I am looking for a way to "manually update" NPE if iit is possible.  If it is not that is fine, I just need to know.

Thanks for your warnings, I understand quite well what NPE can do.

Thanks again.

If you are downloading a fresh copy, it will be the latest available. There would be no need to update.

If it won't run without connecting, I still think you would be better off going to one of the Malware Removal sites.

IP address has disappeared from adapter Realtek Ple FE family controller IP address 169.254.222.144.Does anyone know what this means?:smileysurprised:

It is usually just a renewal of your IP address by your DHCP controller. The connection is usually lost for a few seconds while the renewal process takes place. This is often done by your router at a set interval, or when you restart your computer.

It is nothing to worry about.

Is nrnr.exe safer to use than NPE.exe?, because one of the Norton techs used it during a remote tech fix and when he was done not only did it NOT fix the original problem,i couldn't get back on line to TELL him, and it forced me to have to do a refresh to get back on line.So i'm very leery of NPE.exe:smileysurprised:

The Sonar feature is the behaviour based detection in your Norton product. If it detects a program trying to access something it should not be accessing, it will stop that program and may quarantine the offending file. This is how zero day infections are usually caught.

The two tools are for totally different uses.

NRNR is used to refresh a possibly corrupted install of your Norton Product. A very safe tool

NPE can be a very dangerous tool in the wrong hands. It will do a deep scan for malware, and will recommend files that should be removed. The problem is, if a user does not understand what the files being removed are for, they can end up with system that is unbootable. The reason is that some malware can alter or replace Windows operating system files, that NPE wants to remove. Then you cannot boot.

NPE is only recommeded to be used under supervision of a Malware Removel Expert.

Norton Vulnerability Protection 12.0.5.3 - What Exactly Does it Do?

While browsing this site today, I was prompted to manage my add-ons on Firebox 26.0 Among my add-ons is Norton Vulnerability Protection 12.0.5.3. Though I had seen the name, other than the intuitive title, I really was not certain what this add-on did. So the three searches I did on Norton.com revealed the following - "No results found for Norton Vulnerability Protection 12.0.5.3"

Where do you suppose a detailed description of this add-on would be located? Either it is a Norton add-on or cleverly disguised malware. The point of my post, for those of you that haven't read realized my sarcasm, why doesn't a search of Norton.com provide a result for one of their own products?

Hi,

Did you try doing the search without the version number attached?

Thanks

Why is NPE greyed out? I am testing this USB stick on a PC that has Norton 360 installed.

Why is the power eraser not usable?

I run ghost 15 on my asus laptop windows 7.

Moved to Norton Ghost Board for better exposure.

Unable to Change Password in Norton Account Manager

Hi, all.

I signed in to Norton Account Manager (see link below) and attempted to change my password but I kept getting some error message.  I tried to do this last night and tonight and in both Firefox and Chrome--failed every time.

By the way, I seem to remember that before, maybe no more than a year ago, Norton Account Manager used to ask you for a security answer in case you forgot your login info.  I can't seem to find the place to change that.  Does anyone know what happened to that?

Hi mesa_ta,

You need internet connection to run NPE. Apart from update NPE takes internet connection for scan flow as well.

Happy to help.

Hi umarc,

NPE link will get enabled only if it finds the DHCP enabled internet connection available in the system.so make sure that you have DHCP connection.

What error message were you seeing when you tried to change the password?

See if you still have trouble if you try changing the password at the Norton Account page.  https://account.norton.com

How can I check that?

I know the internet is connected (wired).

I tried to check the connection in the NBRT terminal with the NETSH and SHOW INTERFACES commands,

but it didn't work like it does in the regular Vista terminal.
