F4E: Thank you for your answer. Yeah It's exactly that driver. I thought most likely that it was a Norton File but I was not sure. My computer is working fine so I don't think that I am infected. I just wanted to try the Power Eraser to be sure. But I guess the normal full scan should be enough then? But the Eraser can not remove critical programs if I chose not to? Or can it remove it by itself/Automatically due the scanning?

Disted2: Thanks for your advices. I already have Malwarebytes Pro. Are you sure that Malwarebytes cant run in real time at the same time as Norton 360? I remember that I saw something on their site and they wrote that it in most cases should be OK to run Malwarebytes and Norton in real time at the same time, because they work differently?

At least is there anything I can do to get it compitable to Norton? In the Malwarebytes forum they said that you can eventually set exclusions for Malwarebytes in Norton and the other way as well. I have not run into any conflicts yet. It would be a hard choice, but if I have to I might unactiviate it and just do a scan every now and then as you said.

Hi umarc ,

Did you try "/ipconfig all" in your normal OS which will tell you if DHCP is enabled in your system or not.

And also there are chances that your hardware will not support\load driversin winPE environment properly

For that you can add network drivers while you create NBRT image using wizard.

Happy to help!

When I run disk defrag at boot time, I get hundreds of error 1920 messages - what does this mean?

Forgot to mention - most of the files that are marked by this error come from C://Users/.../Documents/SkyDrive/[filename] - (Note: I also have Google Drive and Dropbox, but they do not cause any errors.)

Hi,

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the sykdrive a web / cloud thing? If so, then I suspect that the scan is trying to do its thing before the Internet connection is complete.

Keep us posted

Most likely, what you saw was referring to the free version. We have had, over the last year or two, a few reports of problems with the free version too--enough that a couple of my fellow Gurus will no longer recommend malwarebytes at all--but under most circumstances you should not have any problems running malwarebytes FREE alongside your Norton.

Malwarebytes PRO is, however, another matter. Our experience here suggests that running the two (or any two real-time security programs) together will eventually cause problems--and even in the meantime will leave your system more open to threats. It can also cause other confusion--for example it is most likely having malwarebytes pro installed simultaneously that caused NPE to detect a part of itself as malicious--the problem that originally brought you here. I think most of us would sooner see you uninstall Norton than that you keep running it together with another real-time security program (though that's obviously not what we'd recommend).

What's more, it's not even sufficient to "unactivate" the second real-time software to avoid this issue; you need to uninstall it, using its custom removal tool. This seems to be an industry consensus, and even malwarebytes itself has started recasting its marketing around this concept. Note the presentation, at the download link I provided above, of MBAM as "Because you and your antivirus need a wingman" (emphasis added, suggesting that this is the product they offer for folks who have other primary--i.e., real-time--antivirus protection).

For malwarebytes, their custom removal tool can be downloaded here:

SD card unexpectedly removed error fixed by NU16

I was having a problem with my HTC EVO smart phone being dumb and dismounting my SD card on a weekly basis. I tried all the reformatting, replacing, erasing, cleaning, etc.. results I could find on the web and nothing worked. I finally tried connecting my phone to my laptop and running my Norton Utilities 16 Recovery Repair Drives for the SD card as a drive and it found a few weird problems. I let Norton fix them and  I am happy to report that my SD card has not unmounted itself in over 2 months yea!!!!

Thanks Norton :)

Do you have an updated number for Partner Support  by Symantec?

The problem reported in the link you reference seems to be a different issue than what I am reporting.

Can you post an image of this, or tell us where you are seeing this?

It is hard to be able to answer your question without knowing the source of your information.

What might answer your question, is that Norton Anti Virus is just that, An Anti Virus program. If you want more features like firewall and anti spam features, you can move up to Norton Internet Security, or add online backup to that by going with Norton 360.

Dave, FANTASTIC! Recovered partition, all the data is there, thank you!  Now I am back to the beginning. I have redone the MBR, set the partition as active, and the computer starts to boot and hangs at the magical blinking cursor.  Could it be a malware or virus? I did AVG scan with drive hooked up via USB to another computer, no viruses found....thoughts?

Excellent, glad you got all the data back.

To tell you the truth I was 90% sure that would work for you.  It was only because of the clear and complete descripton of the problem and symptoms that made it easy for me.

I have seen what you are now encountering many many times.

If you look close you should see that the blinking cursor is actually on the second line down and not the very top left "home" position.

Thats a missing or incorrect MBR, very easy to fix but it may cost you another blank CD.

Give me a half hour or so, I first want to see if it can be correctly done with the partition wizzard CD you already made.

Dave
