hi Umrk111,

An advice for you to prevent such troubles again. You may throughly go through your kids system to find any unwanted toolbars and addons installed in the system. You also may install Norton Family on those system(s) to make sure you can deny such attempts and have a control over them.

Happy to hear you are successfully overcoming this trouble.

There have been a couple of other users noting this behaviour. I do not see it on my system.

What version of NU 16 do you have installed? Click on Help - About. The latest version is 16.0.2.14. If you do not have that version, click on Smart Update from the main NU page.

Hello,

My OS is win7 Home premium 64 bit. Bought brand new PC just month ago. I had same problem with my old PC same OS win7. I tried to run NU16 free trial in my wife's older laptop with win Vista and it was running fine. Could it be incompatibility wit win7?

I have already tried this thanks, but with no success. All Norton have to say about it is they no longer support NU 14

When you are entering the key, be sure you do not enter any dashes or spaces. Not sure if this is relevant with this product, but it does matter with some of the other Norton products.

My copy of NU 16 is running fine on Win 7 Ultimate, SP1.

Not sure if it might matter, but what security software are you using? Was there any other security software that came as trial versions with the new PC?

... Also, I should have mentioned that the letters are case sensitive  -  you need to use capitol letters.

Hi gary_dexter,

I checked with the Norton ConnectSafe team.  It is possible that you ISP is not allowing the 199.xx addresses.  The same nodes that serve 199.xx also serve 198.xxx, so we shouldn't see a difference at all here.  Is it possible that you could reach out to your ISP to see that could be the reason?

The 'old IS' starting with 198.xx are exactly the same as the 199.xxx IPs.  The 19.xxx set will continue to work and will not be retired.  Please use the 198.xx set.

Thanks,

Katie

I am using Norton Internet security. It came together with new PC. There was no other trial version of protection. And these two products allways worked fine together. I did not pay attention to this problem in my old PC, but was surrprised when this happen in new one.

Ok.

If its an ISP issue, why would they work intermittently? Surely they would just not work at all?

Why do you offer different sets of ip's?

The Norton Removal tool is not actually installed when it is run. As already noted, you can just delete the program after you have used it.

That's what I tought, but wasn't shure.  It's like NPE  that we uninstall by deleting it.

We don't find those infos easily.

Many thanks to both of you, you where quick on the trigger,

Jac

To F4E, and everyone else who replied to my post(s):   Thank you for taking the time to address my problem with your thoughtful and informative posts.

I will submit Autokms for analysis as instructed. Adding three teenage kids to two desk tops, two laptops, and three iPads results in what I can only describe as a massive headache. I thought I had a handle on things, and  in a way, I still do, though I am only 97% effective in controlling things. Only six months ago, nearly every device was routinely infected by all sorts of bad things.I grew tired on wiping HDs,  reinstalling software, and yelling at my kids. They seem to have gotten the message - almost.

Anyway, while I sincerely thank you all for your help and advice, I am still stuck with my original problem - NPE still hangs at "checking internet connectivity." So, I compressed and sent NPETraceSession.etl to Surendran. I am hopeful he can determine what is causing NPE to hang. Otherwise, I suppose I will need to reinstall NIS.

Regards to all and have a great weekend!

Hi Umrk111:

There have been other posts in the forum recently about NPE and problems with internet connectivity - see Surendran's comments here in huggi3s' thread titled NPE.exe stuck on Checking for New Version screen & unable to end task for one example.  I don't know if there is a bug in the current version of NPE that effects connectivity with the backend Symantec servers (possibly when NPE tries to download and update its malware definitions?) or if this is due to some residual side-effect of the Conduit infection, but I'm sure the log you sent to Surendran will shed some light on the exact cause.  NPE and NIS are separate programs and if NPE isn't working correctly it's unlikely that a reinstall of NIS would solve the problem.

Nikhil_CV's suggestion in message # 15 to look into the parental controls in Norton Family sounds like a good idea, and the basic version comes free with your NIS subscription.  I've never used this software myself but it can be launched directly from my NIS v. 20.x (2013) main window and there's a separate Norton Family board in the forum where you can get help from other users.
