Norton Hotspot Privacy - Useless Junk ...

I just started using NHP yesterday and I must say, I really disappointed ...  This product adversely impacts internet access performance.  I have high-speed BB internet service and understand that this product may interfere with the ability of a mail client such as Microsoft Outlook to transact against a particular ISP's POP/SMTP servers, but I don't see why it would also inhibit normal webmail access to that same ISP's webmail services.

 

I also find the heavy impact to the overall BB performance totally unacceptable while this product is active - dropping a 125MBPS x 25MBPS (<5ms Ping time) speed test server's results down to a pitiful 9MBPS x 0.5MBPS (>500ms Ping time) functionality.  I am familiar with other VPN solutions and they do not begin to impose such severe performance degradation.

 

Since I just obtained and began using this product yesterday (4/2/14) and foolishly opted for the $50 (U.S.) 1-year subscription, I feel that I have truly "been had" by Symantec...

 

Is there a way I can request a refund and cancelation for this useless product?

Sorry I have no experience with this product, so I cannot comment on what you are seeing.

 

If you are just looking for a return, you should contact Support via chat at   www.norton.com/chat 

 

They may also be able to help you with the problem before a refund is necessary.

Thanks for the reply Peter.

 

I've contacted Customer Service via Norton Support Chat and they have told me that I'll be refunded within 5 to 7 business days.

 

Terrible product ... It didn't even uninstall cleanly, leaving behind software-based pseudo-network adapter constructs and other junk that it created. Furthermore, since there's no NRT-Like cleanup tool for it, I was forced to reload a previous system drive image in order to get it fully gone and the system back to normal again.

VIP Access Setup

Hai all,

 For the past 3 days I'm trying to download VIPAccessSetup.exe from the url:

https://idprotect.vip.symantec.com/desktop/downloaddesktopclient.v

but the problem is that the download never shows up completed, neither its file size is shown.

The download rate is **bleep** slow as 10 to 15kbps in a 1 mbps connection!

 

I tried with IE, Google chrome, FF and Free Download Manager, But all shows the same problem.

The download goes maximum of 20Mb in Free Download Manager(FDM) , all others end up downloading upto 5 or 6Mb.

Searching on google showed that total file size is around 35 - 40Mb.

Is there any alternative location to download the software?

Sorry to hear about all the problems. I was hoping someone else with experience with the product could have posted here to try to help.

Are you using the download manager in all browsers? If so try downloading without the manager.

 

I just downloaded using your link and also by clicking on the Download for Windows button on this page. I am using Firefox v28.

Thanks for reply.

I had tried disabling automatic download monitoring in FDM, which inturn handed over the download to browser's inbuilt download managers. This too didnt seem to work. Currently I'm away from my system and I'll try to download it from any other PC.

Hai again,

 

This is the screenshot, when I try to download it via FF from a public internet facility distant from my location. Same thing....

Unknown Time Remaining!

I tried it via link provided (by ) saving to two different folders in my system. I'll wait and see if it finishes downloading as the connection speed seem to be good now.

Hai all,

Just now it finished downloading file VIPAccessSetup.exe

Its showing a size of 25.8Mb. Is it right?

Anyway happy to see it has finished downloading atleast after a 3 day try

I wanted to ask if there is any way I can rename the 3 Device Names listed in my Norton 360 "Products" screen in Account Manager.

 

I just wanted to give my devices more device-specific names.

My notebook is Envy 15 with windows 8. Suddenly Norton Icon is disappeared. Norton Studio is available.it 

When I click Norton Studio it hagoes to internet Explorer & says ' web page cannot be displayed, not connected to internet, But google & firefox browsers are linked to internet.

If I click internet explorer icon alone, it is also not opening giving the same message above. If I run the HP network launch it is also failed.

Windows Netwrok Diagnostics found the problem as "security on firewall settings might be blocking the connection"

 

Please help me to get solved this problem.

My guess is...

 

Symantec knows that its been devolved to junk, as the support tech on chat simply indicated that I needed to be refunded with sincere apologies for my trouble, never broaching the idea of trying to evaluate/fix the installation.

 

Note too that there have been no comments from those you'd expect to get comments from here ... a further indication of admitted culpability, IMHO.

 

I've since spent some time scanning the web about it and it appears that at one time (2 years or so ago) it had a good rating, but the programmers wrenched on it until it's been devolved to mostly uselessness...

 

I needed a quick security fix for open hotspot utilization and thought this would be it ... lesson learned.

Hi,

 

Usually no, unless you suspect malicious activity.

If it's not the case, the you should avoid running a scan with NPE.

If you do, please be careful as sometimes it can flag legitimate software are malicious.

Hello

 

Norton Power Eraser should not be run as a tool of first resort. Even though it has a feature where you can reverse what it did, if it deletes the wrong file, your computer could end up not being able to reboot.

Appologies to aaa_9116, but you can rename the devices in Norton Management.

 

After signing into Norton Management, click on the My Devices tab. Click on the device you want to rename. Then click on the little pencil icon beside the device name. Then enter the name you want to use.
