Replace the CEO? Again? Symantec currently has an interim CEO who has only held the post for a month.
Re: Change norton dns gateway or Replace norton CEO
Re: Change norton dns gateway or Replace norton CEO
Your confusing a gateway with a subnet mask, I'm sure even the interim CEO knows the difference.
Also keep in mind that some (most?) of the DNS addresses are made to be un-pingable.
Only reason I can possibly think of making them that way is so they can't be tested to see how fast they are.
Or maybe I should say it's so you can't see how slow they are?
Re: unable to query the dns server
You ask if I have done varies things. The simply answer is no. I merely let Norton's "do its thing". Occassionly I would get a pop-up box saying "DNS has reverted". Recently I noticed that the "DNS is unable to query the DNS server"
Re: ConnectSafe Blocking IMPORTANT Microsoft Servers
Thanks Katie! Yes, as of right now I'm able to access Microsoft Update and Download...
Can you share what the problem was and what steps have been taken to be sure it doesn't happen again?
Thanks again!!!
Bill
Re: unable to query the dns server
I have asked you 8 queries, which all isnt YES/NO types anyway.
To help you we need some where to start with , precisely.
.
Have you checked the suggestions I gave?
.
9) Where do you find this error message? Is it in Norton logs or browsers or event viewer of windows?
10) Are you sure you are properly connected to internet or dns server when you get error?
11) Is your popup from NIS?
.
The dns issue can be caused due to a lot of issues, thats why I posted a list of queries and suggestions in previous message.
Please post back.....
(no offence aimed with this post)

Disabled Internet Explorer keeps showing items during scans
I have disabled Internet Explorer Browser (cannot be uninstalled) but whenever I run any scans there is always at least 2 issues that Norton Utilities scans say have been removed. I can immediately run the scan again and there will be 2 issues again. Is there any way to see what those 2 items are or any suggestions how to block them?
Re: Disabled Internet Explorer keeps showing items during scans
welcome to Norton community!

.
Can you please elaborate your issue details with Norton products installed with ver. , operating system (is it Win 8.1) etc. such that we can help you.

I have changed nothing but Norton Utilities 16 suddenly won't open, spends ages, then times out
I have had Norton Utilities 16 on Windows 8 now 8.1 since last summer. I have changed nothing but Norton Utilities 16 suddenly won't open, spends ages, then times out. It is fine and running on Vista as we speak. This problem only started yesterday.

Welcome,
Did you get any updates to W8.1 yeaterday? Have you rebooted? If NU has been corrupted by something you may be able to do a control panel uninstall, reboot, and reinstall of the program.
Assume that your security software is current and scans find no infections.
Keep us posted
Re: I have changed nothing but Norton Utilities 16 suddenly won't open, spends ages, then times out
Thank you, I shut down and switch off everyday. So it is restarted daily. But now you mention, there were some updates yesterday. I will try out your suggestions. I renewd Norton 360 on the 30th April, so I will do all scans/tuneups etc. Tomorrow, dog walking time now. Thanks again.
ConnectSafe Blocking RedCondor Mail Servers
This is getting old... ConnectSafe (aka NortonDNS) is now blocking the following email server:
utopiasystems.net.mx1.utopia.rcimx.net
This server appears to be an anti-spam email filter service (just from performing a whois), so, I suspect a lot of email is being blocked.
We're using the 199.85.126.10 norton dns servers as forwarders in windows server dns service. The error was noticed because our email server (exchange 2007) could not connect to the above email server. As soon as i changed to google's dns servers, it connected imediately. i verified using telnet to port 25...
Sorry to say, but, it seems you get what you pay for in this instance.

Re: Norton DNS status
So that's mean there will NO server status at all for the DNS?
Re: Disabled Internet Explorer keeps showing items during scans
I am running Windows 7, Norton 360 and Norton Utilities 16. I grabbed a screenshot while it was doing a privacy scan/clean and it shows what turned out to be 65 items (64 in pic) and after I did the same scan again and have the screenshot for that. There is always 2 items that it says it's removed no matter how many times I scan. It matters not if I run the scan from Norton 360 or from the Uitilities 16 programs. There is always something in the "internet exporer" section. As it cannot be uninstalled through windows, I removed it as a component which should essentially block its usage. I just don't understand why stuff keeps showing up there or how to stop it.
Re: Smart Defrag Turns Off - NU 16
Windows 7, 64 bit
In addition to Norton Utilities 16, there is Norton Security Suite (up to date), CCleaner, Glary Utilities 4, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and Superantispyware.

IIRC That page only tested whether your system was set up to use Norton DNS. It was not a test of the status of the Norton DNS servers.
Re: Disabled Internet Explorer keeps showing items during scans
That two items may be locked by windows from editing or deletion.
Thats why it re-appears.

Are you using the free versions of Glary Utilities? Does Glary have registry tools?
Are you using the registry cleaning in CCleaner? Or any of the Utilities? It is possible that you are clearing a registry setting with one of the other utilities that is affecting your NU settings.
