Norton Power Eraser will not run
I have been trying to run Norton Power Eraser fir the past three days and I get "An Error Has Occurred - unspecified error - Error Code: 0x80004005,0" I have 32 bit Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 2. I get the error message when the program is starting the process to restart my computer.
I want to run NPE because I have been having issues including my external hard drive starting up on its own, as well as the DVD drive doors opening and closing on their own. I have used NPE in the past and never had any trouble. Also I did get a message about a software update (I think for Norton Internet Security) not installing correctly. Maybe that is causing the problem.

Re: Norton Power Eraser will not run
Hi DJMChicago, and welcome. If you've had a problem you think for an update not installing correctly, I suggest you use the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool, which will give you a clean copy of your Norton product.
Please read the Before you begin note at the top of the page, and after the reinstall run Live Update until no more are found.
This may be more successful than using NPE as it will refresh your copy, and you may not need NPE, which can be a problem if you don't know what you're doing, as it can remove critical files.
let us know how you go.
Re: Norton Power Eraser will not run
Hello DJMChicago
Welcome to the Norton Forum
I would suggest you visit one of the free malware removal sites rather than trying to fix your malware problem on your own. The patch was released today and you have been having problems for 3 days. The NPE is for advanced users only and should be used under the supervision of a removalist. I would not recommend that you try to fix this on your own. I don't believe that a patch not installing correctly would cause those types of problems. Please visit one of these sites and let us know how you make out. They can also tell you if you don't have any malware in your computer.
Please go to one of these free Forums for help in removing your bad malware or rootkits.
(Thanks to Delph for providing the list of sites)
Please see this link for an up to date description of these sites plus the addition of a newly listed site formed by one of our successful malware remover users. The new site is listed first in this link.

Re: Norton Power Eraser will not run
This is the Microsoft info re this error, which can be caused by several issues.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/329936
It may also be a hardware issue.
Have you tried a Microsoft file check ? Using Command Prompt and right clicking Administrator Privileges type sfc /scannow and let it run.
Please note the space after sfc. If any Windows file problems are found, it will attempt to repair them.
Re: Norton Power Eraser will not run
" If any Windows file problems are found, it will attempt to repair them."
Hi F4E,
The problem is that if sfc cannot repair any, it will ask for the installation cd, which, depending on the moment, could be inconvenient. (if the user is busy at that time).
I think it's better to run the sfc /verifyonly command and see the logs and then, if problems are found, the user has the time to prepare the Windows cd and run the sfc /scannow command.
Just my opinion.
Best regards,

" Good point, young Apostolos",
Thank you very much F4E, but, as I approach the 40's I'm not that young... lol!!
I forgot to mention that this command is only available in W7 & W8 not previous Windows versions.
Kind regards,

Norton ConnectSafe Unable To Be Disabled - Belkin N300
I've had this router for quite some time, and there hasn't been a firmware update since 2012. I cannot disable the Norton ConnectSafe on the router. I click the 'no filters' radio button, click apply changes, and when I go back to the page, the top selection is always chosen (Block Malicious, Adult and other non-family friendly sites). I have been a network engineer for 20+ years, a beta tester for Symantec for almost as long, and am a Microsoft Partner as well as an HP Warranty Repair Engineer. I do NOT want this setting on my router. I don't think I should have to bypass it by setting my local DNS to something different, my router should handle that - and on their site, the answer to all questions similar to mine was either to disable the filtering, or go to a page on your forums that 'fixed' the problem. Neither are the answer I need. Please let me know what I can do.
Thank you.
Re: Norton ConnectSafe Unable To Be Disabled - Belkin N300
As a last resort, have you considered resetting your router?
My Netgear modem / router has a reset button that you poke a straightened paper clip into. It can be a PITA to reconfigure but I can't think of anything else to suggest.
Re: The end of Norton Zone???
It is only a commercial and economic reason, I think.
Partition Magic changed my hard drive and now windows won't start
Today I installed Partition Magic on my Windows 7 pc because i wanted to format an ipod and windows couldn't do it. I now know that the program doesn't work with windows 7. When i ran Partition Magic, a message appeared telling me that some big number was not the same as something else and asked if i wanted to change it. Foolishly i clicked yes without looking into what this meant or what it would do. Now when i start my computer i get the Windows Error Recovery screen. When i choose start windows normally i get a BSOD with this error code:
0x0000007B (0xFFFFF880009A97E8,0xFFFFFFFFC0000034,0x0000000000000000,0x0000000000000000)
Can somebody please tell me what the program changed and what i can do to change it back. I can't even start my computer in safe mode or do a system restore. Please help.
Re: The end of Norton Zone???
Norton is not alone in this fall out.
Opera, adobe (does not include CC) are some of gaints who had cloud storages as loss-trades.
Below is an adobe notification:
Re: Partition Magic changed my hard drive and now windows won't start
I found out what the program changed. It made the LBA and CHS values equal. I'm not really sure what this means but can someone help me get my computer running again?
Re: VPN for Windows Phone?
Just wondering how is it possible to connect it using valid subscription and vpn. VPN is provided as separate from Antivirus.
Since windows phone is for simplicity and is immature in many ways (talking about configurations defined by user :P), configuring VPN or Static IP or DNS will be difficult. Search for some apps in store which can do that. (I dont know if there exists any good ones)
Re: Norton ConnectSafe Unable To Be Disabled - Belkin N300
Did you set up Norton Connect Safe on your router or on your PC? If it is set on your PC, there is nothing on your router that will affect it. If you have the settings on the router, they will override any PC settings.
If you do not want the service, you do need to change the Norton DNS settings to something else.
Norton Power Eraser
When trying to run NPE I keep getting a message saying that NPE has “Norton Power Eraser has successfully restored internet connection.Hosts file and NPE proxy settings may have been modified".
I know you should only run NPE as a last resort but sometimes I like to run just to double check.
This problem is happening on two laptops in my house.
Re: Norton Power Eraser
It happens on System Scan (advanced settings) and always stops when it says 'Processing data'
It worked once then stopped again. When it worked, the scan said no risks found.
Both computers still having the problem
