Okay let me get this straight.

 

If I install Norton Utilities on January 1st; run a Registry Checker on January 1st, and it fixes 30 problems.

 

And on January 15th I decided to un install Norton Utilities; you are saying that it wont bring back my errors to beginning?

 

I mean I figured its like the same with a Virus program right? You put files in Quarrantine and if you un install it that the files are a free roam; so that way when you download the next virus checker it re puts the files back in a quarrantine folder

 

But I'm guessing not huh

 

As far as the sfc/scannow...yeah I did that amongst my first ways to fix my problem

 

I then disabled every Windows Feature, rebooted PC and re enabled nearly all of em (since I forgot which  I disabled LOL but none relating to internet/network) and it still didnt work

 

Performing an actual windows update didnt find any problems

 

Looking thru a Hijack This log didnt find anything

 

Scanning for Viruses' still nothing

 

Aside from me wiping this hard drive and starting fresh and or un installing Norton in hopes my original entries can be back...then I'm not sure what to do.

 

I am hoping for a new hard drive and a new operating system next month though :)

Hi,

Security software does not release anything it confines. In fact if you want to delete the program it will ask you to decide if you want to have the programs deleted or remain in confinement.

2. Please update your web browsers to latest versions.

3. Try to narrow down what causes the issue, can you disable all antivirus temporarily to see if that helps.

If you know you want to go back to where you were before installing the NU, you could restore the registry changes from within NU before you uninstall.Just uninstalling would not automatically restore things for you. It would be assumed that you allowed the changes originally and if you did not restore them you wanted to keep them.

The files would never be left 'free to roam'. As Dick mentions, Norton would ask if you wanted to keep the quarantine items in quarantine or delete them. If you kept them, they would have a file extension that would not allow execution of the files.

Recently I seen that the character of Norton Web at Download Tab seemslike abnormal, there are additional character behind Norton 360?, Norton? Internet Security...etc please see attach my sreenshot.

I will try the steps listed in the email. To address your post, all browsers are up to date. Antivirus is not the issue here. I've tried from multiple devices with multiple operating systems. All yielding the same result. Windows, Linux, android, iPhone. All produce the same result when the DNS is switched. Remove the DNS and the issue is gone. I spent time narrowing it down prior to reporting the issue.

Thanks for the tip - I went thru the full bleepingcomputer.com, rkill, adware cleaner and malware.bytes process and was able to quarantinve sweetpacks.  That was good. However, Nortion utilities 16 is still freezing. Now:

 

One click optimization still stops at 20% completion but finds 59 issues befors stopping at

hkey_classes_root\clsid\{ff8f1d65-ad2b-47f1-9e71-66b7d35e3852}\inprocserver32

 

Registry clean stops at 70%, reporting 2 issues at add/remove programs, 2 file extension issues and 55 temporary files shortcut issues before it stops at the same address as above.

 

I would like to be able to use Norton Utilities but need help so it will cycle to 100%.

 

I do have Windows 7, use Internet Explorer 11, and Norton Internet Security.

How long are you waiting for the scans to complete. Sometimes the scan seems to be stuck, but things are still going on in the background.

 

Try going to the Recovery Tab in NU16. From there click on Repair Drives. From there you can check each drive individually. I would suggest the Surface scan option on your system drive, and check the box to Perform on Reboot. That way, no running Windows processes can interfere with the scan.

 

This scan should check for bad sectors that could be causing the hangs when a regular scan is trying to read a bad sector.

NU16 hanging and corrupting Windows startup

I just purchased Norton Utillities 16 (NU16) and encountered the following issues.

Computer Configuration
Manufacturer: HP
Model:  p7-1120
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2130 CPU @ 3.40 GHz
Memory:  8.00 GB
System Type: 64-bit Operating System (Windows 7)
Disk1:  Seagate SATA 1.5TB  C,D
Disk2:  Western Digital SATA 1.0TB E,N,O
Disk3:  Western Digital SATA 1.0TB F,G,H,I,J,K,L,M
Disk4:  Western Digital PATA 320GB p

Problem 1:
I have a 100 GB disk partition (J:) with several large TIB backup files (12,6,8,8,13 and 27) GB in size.
I did a defrag with NU16 and when about 84% completed the computer became very slow (i.e. 5 to 10 minutes to respond to a mouse click.
I stopped the defrag and in about 10 minutes NU16 closed.
I repeated this about 3 times with the same result.
Is this a computer or resource problem (task manager shows memory and CPU available) or a limitation of NU16 with large files?

Problem 2:
I have a 100 GB disk partition (K:).
I first bleached with NU16 and then did a recovery scan which identified over 500,000 files which were still recoverable.
I searched the internet and found I need to check the Clean Master File Table box and r-eboot to remove the recoverable files from the table.
I checked the box and did another bleach operation followed by a restart command.
The computer hung up during the reboot and I was forced to do a Microsoft startup repair.
I then repeated this again and again had to repair startup.

If a scan or defrag hangs, it could be due to some bad sectors on the drive(s).

 

To check your hard disk, click on the Windows Start button. In the search box type CMD. Right click on cmd.exe and click on run as administrator. In the command prompt type "chkdsk c: /r"  without the quotes. A message will come up asking if you want to check the disk on the next restart. Answer 'Y'. Reboot and the check disk will run before Windows starts up. This check will check the file system as well as the physical disk surface. This scan can take a long time, depending on the size of your hard drive.

I would suggest running this on all your drives that you had checked for NU to defrag.
