My NU version is 16.0.1.7. on Windows7.  It worked for about a year.  Now it does not improve my System Health at all and recommends the same tasks, that were just completed.  I installed a new copy of NU which was bundled with my new NIS, same result.  All of these tasks are enabled on the Settings of the 1-click optimization.  Smart Update says: Your product is up to date!

NIS.exe continuously writes to disk

NIS.exe running as windows service continuously writes to disk - generation excessinv I/O. This will also degrade the hard disk performance gradually.

It writes these 2 files

C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_21.1.0.18\Logs\bash.dat
C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_21.1.0.18\CmnClnt\ccSetMgr\settings_21.1.0.18.dat

This is wrong from a design perspective also. Please fix this.

Have you restarted your computer since changing the DNS settings? I had unusual responses when I first changed to the new DNS settings. Restarting the computer fixed this.

If you looked at the link that Krusty13 gave, you will see that the new DNS numbers are actually working, but there is an issue with the test page that Norton is using. If the DNS was not working, you would not be able to access any web sites.

It has to do with the Windows process csrss.exe. When the messages come up I opened task manager and clicked the application tab. I clicked the application that shows up and right-clicked. then I choose 'go to process' all the repeated messages are for the csrss.exe process. I have shut that down and windows didn't work properly.

So can tech support look into this problem?

Re: New IPs Available for Norton ConnectSafe

I updated Norton ConnectSafe a few days ago and got the error message mentioned above when I tried to test it. I think I'm right in saying that Norton ConnectSafe is available to everyone, not just those who pay for a Norton porgram such as Norton Internet Security or Norton 360. In this case, it hardly gives a good impression of Norton if someone gets ConnectSafe, tests it to see if it's working and then sees the message "Your computer is not currently using Norton DNS". Obviously websites wouldn't load if ConnectSafe wasn't working, but this may not occur immediately to people, particularly new, inexperienced users. It doesn't impress the rest of us much either!

This update was issued on 19th December, the error on the test page was reported on the same day, so why has this not been put right yet? Irina_M said "We'll be making updates to the ConnectSafe website to address this issue in the future." When in the future? This week, next week, next year? The statement given is far too vague. Please urge whoever is responsible to get this page updated as a matter of urgency. I realise it's hardly in the league of a zero-day vulnerability, but the present situation doesn't do Norton's reputation any good does it?

In the meantime, my very best wishes to everyone for a happy festive season and a good 2014!

Madeline

Need Help with Removal Tool

I need to remove Norton Internet Security for awhile.  The first time I ran the Norton Removal Tool, it gave the message that I first had to remove Norton Utilities, which I did have on my computer at the time.  I uninstalled NU through the regular Windows uninstaller, but when I went back to try the removal tool it still says that NU must first be removed.  But I've already removed it.  So I'm stuck right now.  What can I do to solve this?

Hi,

This might sound a little crazy, but in this case I suggest you reinstall NU and uninstall once more, then try NRT.

NU15  -  www.norton.com/nu15

NU16  -  www.norton.com/nu16

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks!

Hi,

There are different levels of access to various types of sites using Norton DNS. If your current level is too restrictive you might change to a more permissive level.

Keep us posted

I tried reinstalling NU16, but it didn't work.  I even uninstalled with Revo uninstaller, attempting to remove everything.  There was a file that was supposed to be removed on reboot, which survived the advanced uninstall.  It is C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Norton Utilities 16\sMonitor\SSDMonitor.exe.  After the reboot I couldn't find this file, so presumably it was removed as well.  And yest, the Norton Removal Tool continues to say that NU16 is installed and it cannot go forward to remove NIS.  I am really stuck.  Don't know what's going on, but I can't do anything with the Removal Tool because it says it is detecting NU16.  Any recommendations?  This is frustrating.
